Some days my heart feels heavy...I'm sure you'd be quick to say the same. The truth of God's Word is real and relevant. It gives life, hope, peace, and joy. It is the way! Yet there are so many who have not experienced it, who choose to deny it's authority, and ignore its significance for their lives.
A survey by America's Research Group shows that one of the reasons young people leave church after high school is because their questions about the Bible are not answered. These students say their Sunday School materials were shallow and irrelevant. 86% had begun to question the Bible by their high school years.
A number of factors play into these statistics, but I take it as a charge to work that much harder and smarter to ensure that the children of our church and those we reach in our community understand God's Word for exactly what it is - the absolute truth for our lives. As I was speaking to 5th & 6th graders this week I was alarmed at the depth of their questions. They are seeking the answers to life's questions - are we equipped to provide the answers?
If you're a parent or if you're serving in Children's Ministry, I challenge you to join me in taking these serious matters to heart. I was honest when I told our 5th & 6th graders that I love God's Word! It is life and breath to me, it's my strength and hope and joy. Are you in God's Word daily? Do you allow it to pentrate your soul and spirit (Heb 4:12)? Precious young eyes and souls are watching our examples closely. Am I allowing the Bible's relevance to affect every area of my life? Am I speaking the truth of God's Word into children's minds and hearts whenever I have the chance? Can I look at my life and tell a child to follow me as I follow Jesus?
They must see God's Word alive and active in us to understand it's relevance and authority!
Love & Prayers for you dear Christ followers!
